Welcome to Farm Shop At The Mart — East Lothian's Favourite Food Shop Has a New Home Online

At the heart of East Lothian is the small town of East Linton where we have been growing our business for over a decade, having purchased a small farm shop formally known as Knowe’s Farm Shop, we’ve grown into something much bigger. Tucked into the site of a former auction mart, The East Linton Sales Ground — where generations of East Lothian farmers once bought and sold livestock — Farm Shop At The Mart has become something those farmers probably never imagined: one of the most well-stocked food shops in Scotland with people travelling from North Berwick, Haddington and Dunbar every day, but many travelling from further afield just to see our selection.

When we took over this business prior to the beast from the east it was a very small shop, we expanded our range, and tried our best to look after the community during that storm, then in 2020 when COVID struck we turned into something completely different, overnight we became a small supermarket, and now we are significant employer for the town and we care about each and every person who comes through the doors of our shop. Every year we have tried to improve the offering and grow what we are doing, it started with adding ikea shelving and bit by bit adding new product ranges and then through purpose built retail units now we are just like a mini supermarket but we care a lot more about our customers.

Today, we're marking a new chapter. We've launched our brand new website, it isn’t going to be anything fancy but it’ll let you know exactly what we are doing — and we wanted to take a moment to properly introduce ourselves to anyone finding us for the first time, and to say a proper thank you to everyone who's been with us from the beginning.

More Than a Farm Shop

We get called a farm shop, and we're proud of that heritage, given our strong connection to agriculture and horticulture, growing tonnes of our own fruit and vegetables each year and stocking dozens of local producers. But if you've ever walked through our doors, you'll know we're something a little harder to define. At Knowe’s the business lived on the farm, here we support dozens of scottish farmers directly through purchasing everything from Balgone Meat, through to Mossgiel Milk, Yester Farm Dairies’ dairy products, and Mungoswells flour just to name a few

With over 8,500 product lines spanning everything from freshly cut deli cheeses and hand-selected Scottish meats to Italian pantry staples, South Asian ingredients, specialty teas, fine wines, local kombucha made by You + I, and some of the best Scottish produce you'll find anywhere with classics including Chrystal’s Shortbread filling the shelves — we're quietly becoming something closer to a small supermarket. One with soul, provenance, and a team who actually knows what they're selling.

That evolution is something we're embracing openly. East Lothian deserves a premium quality food shop that can do it all — the weekday essentials for quick and easy midweek dinners, the weekend treat, the dinner party centrepiece, the gift you can't find anywhere else. We want to be that shop. Whether you are looking for affordable food or £80 olive oil we’ll have products for you

The Place You Go When Nobody Else Has It

If there's one thing our regulars know about us, it's this: if you can't find it anywhere else in East Lothian, come to the Mart. If we don’t stock it, give us a few days and we will find it, we are always willing to try new products in store.

That reputation didn't happen by accident. Over the years we've built relationships with dozens of local and national suppliers and over a hundred producers from across Scotland — the kind of people who care as much about what they make as we do about what we stock. From the dairy farmer a few miles down the road to the artisan cheesemaker like Errington Cheeses on the other side of the country, every product on our shelves is there because we genuinely believe in it, and we have selected it

And if you still can't find what you're looking for? Ask us. Product knowledge is something we take seriously, and our team are here to help.

Come for the Shopping, Stay for the Coffee

While you're here, our café is waiting for you. Whether you need a proper sit-down lunch after a morning's shopping, a coffee and a slice of something good, or a quiet half hour away from the school run — the Mart café is a place to slow down and enjoy yourself. We're open seven days a week, 9am to 4pm, every day or until sellout at the cafe of the year except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Part of Something Bigger

The Mart isn't just a shop — it's a community. Our site is home to over a dozen independent businesses, all of us rooted in the same belief that East Linton and the wider East Lothian community deserves something better than a supermarket car park and a self-checkout machine.

We're proud to be part of that. We're proud to know our customers by name, to remember what you asked for last time, and to be the kind of local business that genuinely adds something to the place it calls home.
